Mark B. Pochapin, MD, FACG, is the Sholtz-Leeds Professor of Gastroenterology, Director of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine / NYU Langone Health. Dr. Pochapin earned his Bachelor of Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. He completed his residency and chief residency in internal medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and his fellowship in gastroenterology at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Internationally recognized for his clinical and research leadership, Dr. Pochapin focuses on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers and quality in endoscopy. He was among the first in New York to use linear EUS with FNA, establishing it as a routine tool to diagnose pancreatic cancer. A national leader in advancing colorectal cancer screening and colonoscopy quality, Dr. Pochapin has held leadership roles with the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable, the NYC Coalition for Colon Cancer Control, and the GI Quality Improvement Consortium. As GI Division Director at NYU Langone Health, he has recruited more than 150 faculty members and helped build a world-class GI Division. A passionate educator, he has received over 30 teaching awards and multiple honors for clinical excellence, mentorship, and leadership. Dr. Pochapin hosts two national SiriusXM Doctor Radio programs, “Chiefs Rounds” and “Medicine Grand Rounds,” and is a past president of the American College of Gastroenterology. His many awards include the ACG Beacon Award (2020) for “outstanding leadership in extraordinary times", the Healio Lifetime Disruptor Award (2022), and the ACG Berk-Fise Award (2024) for distinguished lifetime contributions to gastroenterology.
