Lauren Feld, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Chan School of Medicine, with a clinical focus on women’s health in liver and digestive disease. She also serves as the Physician Executive for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging in the Department of Medicine, where she focuses on workforce gender equity. Her research is focused on the intersection of gender equity and medical ethics. She has specific training and expertise in clinical medical ethics and quantitative assessment, with a focus on access to care and gender-based disparities. Throughout her medical career, she has sought to better understand the diverse components and contextual factors of successful care delivery. Patients must contend with barriers to compliance and accessing care. Physicians must apply their knowledge base while working within complex and imperfect systems, and contend with preconceived biases and risk factors for medical errors. Her research aims to uncover and alleviate barriers to patient access to care and compliance, as well as barriers to physician success. In both of these lines of inquiry, she has been committed to conducting impactful research and finding effective ways of communicating that research to academics, patients, and the wider medical community.
