Fernando Velayos, MD, MPH, is Director of the Regional Program in Inflammatory Bowel Disease at Northern California Kaiser Permanente, as well as Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Velayos graduated medical school at UCSF and completed his subsequent post-graduate training there as well. He completed additional training in inflammatory bowel disease at Mayo Clinic and research training at University of California, Berkeley. He served as a faculty member at UCSF for over 12 years and was co-medical director of the Center for Crohn’s and Colitis at UCSF. He currently serves as chief of gastroenterology at Kaiser San Francisco Medical Center and also serves as the regional lead for the KP Northern California regional program for inflammatory bowel disease. His clinical and research interests involve use of novel therapies to treat IBD and prevention of colon cancer in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
