Dr. Ash Vareedayah is an interventional gastroenterologist at UI Health in Chicago, Illinois. He received his medical degree from Albany Medical College, completed Internal Medicine residency at Georgetown University Hospital, and subsequently a Gastroenterology & Hepatology fellowship at Saint Louis University. After completing a second fellowship in Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy at New York University in 2019, Ash Vareedayah initially stayed on as faculty at NYU Langone and Bellevue Hospital Center before moving to UIC in August 2023.

In addition to performing therapeutic endoscopy including EUS and ERCP, one of his main interests includes third space endoscopy. Dr. Vareedayah has performed the very first peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) in the history of Bellevue Hospital in New York, one of the oldest public hospitals in the United States. Additionally, he has performed the first POEM in the history of UIC. Dr. Vareedayah is especially interested in fellows’ education / endoscopy training, and is actively involved in mentoring the current General GI and Advanced Endoscopy fellows at UIC.
