Introduction: Ectopic pancreas, defined as pancreatic tissue located outside its normal anatomical location, is a rare clinical entity. It can occur in various regions of the gastrointestinal tract, with the gastric pylorus being an uncommon site. While most cases are asymptomatic, complications such as acute pancreatitis, pseudocysts, and other gastrointestinal disturbances can occur.
Case Description/
Methods:
Case Presentation: We present a case of a 62-year-old female male who presented with epigastric pain, nausea, and vomiting. Imaging studies revealed a mass in the gastric pylorus with surrounding inflammatory changes, suggesting a pancreatic pseudocyst. Upon further evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with an ectopic pancreas located in the pyloric region. The patient later developed acute pancreatitis, with imaging revealing an intramural pseudocyst adjacent to the ectopic tissue. Surgical resection was performed, with histopathological examination confirming the presence of pancreatic tissue in the gastric pylorus. Discussion:
Discussion: Ectopic pancreatic tissue in the gastric pylorus is exceedingly rare and can be difficult to diagnose preoperatively. The association with acute pancreatitis and the formation of an intramural pseudocyst complicates the clinical picture and may mimic other gastric pathologies. This case highlights the importance of considering ectopic pancreas in the differential diagnosis of gastric masses and abdominal pain. Surgical resection remains the definitive treatment, and histological confirmation is crucial for diagnosis. This case underscores the rare yet significant complication of ectopic pancreatic tissue in the gastric pylorus, which can present with acute pancreatitis and pseudocyst formation. Early recognition and appropriate surgical intervention are essential for managing these rare complications.
