Kaveh Sharzehi, MD, MS, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), where he also serves as Medical Director of Endoscopy, Co-Director of the Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Autotransplantation (TPIAT) Program, and Co-Medical Director of the Digestive Health Center. Dr. Sharzehi specializes in the care of patients with gastrointestinal cancers and pancreatobiliary diseases. He has advanced training in interventional and therapeutic endoscopy, enabling him to manage complex conditions such as pancreatic cancer, bile duct disorders, and advanced gastrointestinal lesions. His procedural expertise includes endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), ERCP with cholangioscopy, EUS-guided drainage, endoscopic mucosal resection, double balloon enteroscopy, enteral stenting, and endoscopic ablation therapies. He earned his medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences before completing an internal medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He subsequently pursued fellowships in hepatology at the University of Miami, gastroenterology at Penn State University (where he also earned a Master’s degree in Public Health Sciences) and advanced endoscopy at Fox Chase Cancer Center/Temple University. He began his faculty career at Temple University, where he served as Program Director of the Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship and Medical Director of Endoscopy, before joining OHSU in 2017. Dr. Sharzehi’s academic interests center on pancreatobiliary disease, advanced endoscopy, and systems-based approaches to complex gastrointestinal care. He has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to national guidelines, and served as site principal investigator for multicenter clinical trials. He is a Fellow of both the ACG and AGA, and serves on the ACG Annual Meeting Planning Subcommittee and the AGA Governmental Affairs Committee.
