Saurabh Chawla, MD, is a Professor in the Division of Digestive Diseases of the Department of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Chawla serves as Director of Endoscopy at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital. He is actively involved in medical school teaching, resident and fellow training in gastroenterology as the Program Director of the Digestive Diseases Fellowship Program in the Department of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Chawla is a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control research program at Winship Cancer Institute. Besides, being the Co-Chair of the Georgia Colon Cancer Rountable, he holds professional memberships with the ACG, AGA, and ASGE, and is the immediate Past President of the Georgia Gastroenterologic and Endoscopic Society. Dr. Chawla earned his Medical Degree and completed his surgical residency at the University of Delhi in New Delhi, India. He completed his internal medicine residency and his gastroenterology fellowship training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. He completed additional training in interventional endoscopy at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. Through his research, Dr. Chawla looks to further synthesize novel genetic markers that will help diagnose and differentiate early pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer. He also has an interest in disparities in presentation and management of gastrointestinal cancers. Dr. Chawla has several original publications, including research studies, review articles, and book chapters and has presented at several national and international conferences. He serves on the editorial boards of several gastroenterology journals.
