Mitchell Mah’moud is a Professor of Medicine and teaching faculty in the Division of Gastroenterology at Duke University School of Medicine. Between 1997 to 2000, he was Assistant Professor of Medicine, Director of Clinical Hepatology and the Associate Program Director of the GI Fellowship in the Division of Digestive Diseases at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He received his MD degree from the Ibadan Medical School in Nigeria. He subsequently completed his residency training in Internal Medicine from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Thereafter, he underwent his Fellowship Training in Digestive Diseases at the Yale Medical School in New Haven, Connecticut. From 1996-97, he served as a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at the Yale Medical School and an Attending Gastroenterologist at the West Haven VAMC. He also has a doctorate degree in Theology. He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology and a physician with the Raleigh Medical Group-GI. In addition, he is a Fellow of the ACG, AGA, and AASLD. He also serves on numerous leadership positions including the Educational Affairs Committee of ACG, Ethics Committee of the AGA, CALD SIG, Clinical Practice SIG, the Annual Meeting Education, CME and the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Committees of the AASLD. He was a founding Executive Board member of the AGA CGIT. He is a peer reviewer for several journals as well as the abstract reviewer for the annual scientific meetings of the ACG, AASLD and DDW. He is an author of several research papers. He has also been an investigator in many clinical trials in liver disorders. He is a frequent guest speaker and moderator on liver diseases at the national and international society meetings.
