Nikhil A. Kumta, MD, MS, FACG, is the Chief of Endoscopy at NYU Langone Health and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Dr. Kumta trained in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center. He remained at Cornell for fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, during which time he served as Chief Gastroenterology Fellow and also obtained a Masters Degree in Patient-Oriented Research from Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. He then completed subspecialty fellowship training in advanced endoscopy, third space endoscopy, and bariatric endoscopy at Cornell. Prior to joining the faculty at NYU, he worked at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Kumta has extensive expertise, particularly in complex endoscopic procedures such as endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), endoscopic suturing, and interventional EUS. A passionate educator, Dr. Kumta has received multiple teaching awards. Dr. Kumta is a frequent invited faculty member at regional, national, and international meetings. He has authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications primarily focused on therapeutic endoscopy, and has served on educational and scientific committees for several national GI societies.
