Galen Leung, MD, is the Assistant Professor of Medicine and Chief of Advanced Endoscopy at NYU Langone Health's Long Island Hospital. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Columbia University, then obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He completed his internal medicine residency at New York University Langone Medical Center, his gastroenterology fellowship at Stony Brook University Hospital, and his advanced endoscopy fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He previously served as an Advanced Endoscopist and Director of Endoscopy Quality Improvement at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, where he established innovative and multidisciplinary advanced endoscopy programs, contributed to an artificial intelligence guidance system in third space endoscopy, and implemented quality improvement projects in endoscopic clinical practice. In addition to performing EUS and ERCPs for complex pancreatic and biliary diseases, he has a clinical interest in gastrointestinal oncology and in emerging techniques in the endoscopic resection of complex neoplasia and early cancers in the gastrointestinal tract, which he laid the groundwork for clinical and educational programs in endoscopic submucosal dissection at Penn. He also has clinical expertise in minimally invasive PerOral Endoscopic Myotomy for GI dysmotility disorders, such as achalasia, gastroparesis, and Zenker’s diverticulum. Currently, he is building and streamlining advanced endoscopy programs across the NYU Langone hospitals. Dr. Leung has also authored multiple publications, and presented at national and international conferences on advanced endoscopy innovations. For the ACG, he has contributed to the Educational Affairs Committee and is currently on the Research Committee. He is also an alumnus of the Eearly Career Leadership Program. He is also an active member of the ASGe and AGA.
